And my big boy weighs 12lbs 2.6ozs!! I'm so proud of him! He's 24ins long. While he's still below 0% for weight he's doing well for him. His height-to-weight proportions are off because he weighs less than he should for his height but I don't care!! He's doing so good! He still spits up a ton but because his Upper GI series came back normal the doctor says he's just a spitter.
Luke is a very tall baby compare to Grace. He's already a full inch longer than she was at his same age. When Luke was born he was 1/2 and inch shorter than Grace was and now here he is taller than she was at his age. It's funny how that worked out! Grace is still very short. Some babies Luke's age are almost as tall as she is (30 3/4 inches). I am so happy that our girl is short and our boy is tall or else they might have cursed us as teenagers!!
Luke is on Nexium once a day and Zantac 3xs a day still. I was worried about the Nexium because I read something that says babies shouldn't be on it for more than 8 days. Apparently it's only supposed to be used to heal the damage. His GI dr says that the benefits outweigh the risks at the point so he will stay on it. But in the future his calcium has to be checked because it can cause osteoporosis in children. That obviously worries me but we are going to stick it out for now since its working so well!!
My little boy isn't so little anymore but I'm so happy he's doing better! He still has a long road ahead of him but it's a little less bumpy for him now. I can't believe he's over 12 lbs!! He proved he was a strong little boy in the NICU but he's proven it over and over again with this reflux crap. I don't know how/why I was blessed with such a special and strong boy but I am so grateful for him. Way to go Luke!!
A blog (mostly) for my kids and (partly) for me

My accomplishment for the day
Both my kids are sleeping in their rooms in their cribs! I also put both of them down awake and they fell asleep on their own. The kicker is neither of them cried at all and just went to sleep. It may seem silly to some, but this is a HUGE accomplishment in this house
Also, Luke was given Nexium last week for his reflux. He seemed to be doing well on it but now he's right back to where he was before this medication. But a few things have changed.
He went from pooping every 3-4 days to going everyday. Now today he went 2xs. It's loose, really light green and diarrhea (think up his back). His norm was sticky and almost black.
His puke smells! Like metal or iron or something. This kid pukes all the time so I'm used to the smell. This new smell makes me want to puke.
He's not sleeping well all of a sudden. He has a stuffy nose but only when laying down for the night.
He's refusing formula. Usually takes a 6oz bottles before bed and tonight he refused the last 2ozs! Otherwise he is acting normal. Happy, smiley, completely normal. No fever, no indicators that he's sick. My gut says he's not sick. If anything he's dealing with allergies just like Grace is (she has a stuffy/runny nose but also isn't sick). Also, he has weight gain issues so refusing formula is no good!

It seems to be working!!
Luke got switched to Nexium on Wednesday in addition to his Zantac. I really hope I don't jinx myself but... It seems to be working!! We are beyond excited! Last night Kris and I just kept saying "he's a normal baby." We had no crying, he was calm as anything. And he went to sleep on his own!! I put him down awake and he slept until 9:30am. We were giving Grace a bath last night and Luke laughed at her the whole time. It's one of the few times we caught a video and Luke was happy!! He's spitting up way less too (like he didn't wear a bib yesterday for the 1st time EVER)! Kris say he's going to gain a pound this week!

GI Appt for Luke
We went back to the GI dr today for a follow up. He weighed 10lbs even almost 3 weeks ago and today he weighed 10lbs 8.5ozs. He gained, but not nearly enough. He has fallen off the charts completely and officially has the diagnosis of "failure to thrive." It kills me and I literally feel like crying. He's still growing in length (he's 23in now) but his head may not be growing. I personally think they measured it wrong his last appt but now that has to be monitored too.
His Zantac was upped to a higher dose (he gets it 3xs a day) plus now he was given Nexium as well. He's been getting rice in his formula for 2.5 weeks now and obviously that isn't helping! The worst thing was having to tell the dr that "yes, my son is still in pain but he has now gotten used to it." What almost 4 month old deserves to "get used" to pain?
And tomorrow is his 4 month appt and he's getting shots. I feel awful putting him through even more pain.
